EASTER EGGS
Per "Easter eggs" (uova di Pasqua) si intendono le sorprese nascoste dentro i DVD
e contengono ulteriori contenuti extra. Di solito si attivano cliccando su immagini o icone che sembrano solo decorativi.
A volte invece, bisogna fare manovre complicate col telecomando.
Alien
Fox Home Video has hidden 3 Easter Eggs on their 20th Anniversay Edition of “Alien”.
From the main menu highlight “Extra Features” and then press the left arrow key to highlight the left window. Press “Enter” and you will see the production credits for this DVD. Now highlight “Scene Selections” from the main menu and press the right arrow key to highlight the other window. If you press “Enter” now, you will see the flightplans of the Nostromo and extensive crew information.
Finally, go to the “Extra Features” submenu and arrow down until you highlight the acid puddle at the bottom of the screen. If you press “Enter” now you will be able to see Kane’s transmission of the alien’s lifecycle. This Easter Egg is a contribution from our reader Brian Oreskov.
Alien 3
Fox Home Video has also released some hidden features on the release of “Alien 3”. Go to the “Special Features” menu and there select the “Making Of” documentary. After the documentary is over, a second “Alien 3” Trailer starts that includes scenes that are not even in the final cut of the film. This hidden feature has been submitted to us by Mark A. Rivera.
Alien la clonazione (Alien Resurrection)
As on the other 'Alien' discs, Fox Home Video has put some unadvertised trailers on 'Alien Resurrection'. From the disc's main menu go to the 'Extra Features' section where you will find an entry called 'Trailers'. As you'd expect, it will bring up trailers to all four Alien movies. Although not an explicitely hidden feature, many of you were excited to find these trailers on the disc. This Easter Egg has been submitted to us by EdWoody and Scott Piehler.
Aliens
20th Century Fox Home Video’s release of “Aliens” also contains 2 Easter Eggs. From the main menu go to the “Extra Features” submenu and there arrow all the way down until the vital-signs monitor at the bottom of the screen is highlighted. Press “Enter” now and you will see the production credits for this DVD. Not really hidden, but unadvertised, this disc also contains trailers to all 4 Alien movies in the “Extra Features” section. This hidden feature has been submitted to us by Christopher Haney.
Assassini nati (Natural Born Killers)
Trimark Home Video has once again hidden some trailers on their release of Oliver Stone's controversial movie 'Natural Born Killers.'
On the disc's main menu, highlight the familiar Trimark logo and then press 'Enter'. This will take you to trailers for some other Trimark DVD releases, namely 'Another Day In Paradise', 'Storm Of The Century' and 'Cube'. This hidden feature has been submitted to us by Richard Smith.
Codice Swordfish (Swordfish)
Warner Home Video’s release of the hot and hip action thriller 'Swordfish' contains a few extras that are hidden on the disc.
Designed for access through DVD-ROM drives and a dedicated website as part of the 'Restricted Files' section on the disc, these hidden features can also be accessed right from your set top player.
If you directly select Title 10 on your player, you can see a music video from the film. Directly accessing Titles 11 – 18 will bring up exciting interview clips with various cast and crew members, while directly accessing Title 19 will allow you to take a look at various pre-production sketches and illustrations.
Note: Please refer to your DVD player’s user manual how to access Titles on DVD discs directly, as every player is handling this differently!

Die Hard (Die Hard With A Vengeance)
If you know where to look, you can find some exciting hidden features on 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Special Edition release of the 'Die Hard With A Vengeance' Special Edition.
Insert the second disc from the set and from the main menu, go to the 'Interview and Profile' section. Once there, press the 'left' arrow key on your remote control to highlight the 'Exit' sign on the wall. This will take you to minutes worth of great outtakes and bloopers from the movie.
To see the hidden DVD Production Credits for this disc, go to the main menu, highlight 'Trailers and TV Spots' and then press the 'right' arrow key on your remote control. This will highlight the subway post, which will take you there.
This exciting feature was uncovered by Miles L. Hill and Geoff Major.
DVD Spectacular
The “DVD Spectacular” disc contains a hidden track that will tax your player a little. Skip to track #29 and you will start the hidden track. It is a Dolby Digital track encoded at 640kb/s instead of the regular 448kb/s. Not all players may be able to decode and play this track correctly, but it won’t hurt to try. This exciting feature was uncovered by Roy Hodges.
Edward mani di forbice (Edward Scissorhands)
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment's release of Tim Burton's fable 'Edward Scissorhands' contains a nice hidden feature.
From the disc's main menu, go to the 'Extra Features' where you will find the hidden screen. Use your remote control and press the arrow 'Down' key until the symbol of a pair of scissors appears at the bottom of the screen, right underneath the 'Concept Art' menu entry.
Now press 'Enter' and you will be taken to a credit screen with special thanks to the people who were involved in the making of this DVD, as well as Tim Burton and Danny Elfman.

L'inglese (The Limey)
Apart from some very helpful and interesting technical information, Artisan Entertainment has also hidden some very funny hidden feature on their release of 'The Limey.'
If you've never read any cast and crew biographies on DVD releases because they're too dry for you, it is time to reconsider.
Unsuspiciously, Artisan Entertainment's Easter Egg is actually hidden within the disc's 'Cast and Crew' biographies that are accessible from the disc's 'Special Features' menu. Once you get there, select the biography of producer 'Scott Kramer.' Unlike a real biography of the producer, the creators of the DVD have created a very funny and supposedly made-up life story for the man. Not only does it include references to Mormon Turtle Farms and Steven Soderbergh's second sister to the left, but also an annulled marriage due to a parking violation. This is very funny stuff that you should not miss! This hidden feature has been submitted to us by Matt Casto.
Galaxy Quest
Dreamworks Home Entertainment's release of the hilarious space comedy 'Galaxy Quest' contains a number of great additional features.
The most obvious one is 'Omega 13,' accessible through a menu entry on the main menu. It can only be activated once you watched the entire film, and features a nice little clip.
But the disc also contains a number of short interview clips all over the place. They can be found in the cast and crew biographies of Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shaloub, Daryl Mitchell and Sam Rockwell, as well as some of the crew members. At the top of their biography pages you will notice a small reel icon that you can highlight. If you activate it by pressing 'Enter' on your remote control you will have the chance to see some interview clips in which cast members talk about the movie and their colleagues.
The last one is actually more of an error than a hidden feature, but intriguing nonetheless. In the cast and crew biographies you will find a listing for 'Brandon Long.' The peculiar thing about it is that the actor's name is Justin Long - Brandon is actually the name of his character in the film!
This hidden feature has been submitted to us by Trey Murphy, Lewis Janack and Alan Batie.
Mars Attacks
Just as hilarious as the movie is this hidden feature on Warner’s “Mars Attacks!” disc. Go to the soundtrack selection in your menu and select the Martian Audio Track. You will see a screen shot and some funny, garbled Martian dialogue.
The Matrix
Warner Home Video's release of 'The Matrix' contains two advertised hidden features.
From the disc's main menu go to the 'Special Features' and there select 'The Dream World'. Apart from the text menu entries you will also see a red pill. Select it and you will be taken to the 'What Is Bullet Time?' documentary.
Also in the 'Special Features' section, go to 'Cast & Crew Bios' and there select the Warchowsky Brothers. This will bring up another red pill. Select it and it takes you to a 12-minute documentary called 'What Is Concept?' This Easter Egg is a contribution from our reader Mattias Fahlcrantz and Andreas Sjöström.
Il Pianeta delle scimmie (Planet Of The Apes)
20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has hidden some additional material on their Special Edition release of the Tim Burton movie, 'Planet Of The Apes.'
Insert the first disc of the 2-disc set and from the Main Menu, select the 'Special Features' menu entry, and there select 'Commentaries.' Once you get to that screen, highlight the 'Back' menu entry at the bottom of the screen and then press the 'Up' arrow key on your remote control to highlight the symbol of a monkey. Press 'Enter' now and you get to see a monkeyed-up version of the movie - or at least part of it.
Also in the 'Special Features' menu, select the 'Cast & Crew Biographies' entry, then select 'Cast' and in that screen select 'Estella Warren. In the first page of her biography, press the 'Up' arrow key on your remote control to highlight the arrow next to her portrait. This will give you access to the actress’ first audition tape for the movie. You can also find audition tapes in the cast biographies for Erick Avari and Luke Eberl.
From the Main Menu, select 'Language Selection' and highlight the 'Resume Film' menu entry. Now press the 'Right' arrow key to highlight the symbol of an ape. This will give you access to the DVD credits.
This exciting feature was uncovered by Richard Peters and John-Carlos McMaster.
Shrek
Dreamworks Home Video has hidden two fun Easter Eggs on their 2-disc Special Edition release of the animated comedy 'Shrek.' Here’s how to find them.
On both discs from the 2-disc set, go to the main menu and from there to the 'Special Features' menu and highlight the 'Main Menu' entry at the bottom of the screen. Now press the 'Up' arrow key on your remote control to highlight the bellybuttons of the Gingerbread Man. Press 'Enter' now and you will get a 'Shrek Fun Fact' – a little piece of trivia information from the movie. Every time you select this hidden feature, a randomly selected Fun Fact comes up.
Another Easter Egg is hidden on the second disc of the set. From the main menu, go to the 'Play' menu entry and press the 'Up' arrow key to highlight the music note in the background. This will allow you to view the 'Shrek Karaoke.'
